Who's required to have a New Mexico Server Permit?

Anyone who sells or serves alcoholic beverages to guests and customers, manages the sales of alcoholic beverages, or controls and directs the sales or service of alcohol.

How do I get my Server Permit?

You must take and pass a state approved 4.5-hour Alcohol Server Education Course. You can find the list of State approved training providers on the New Mexico Alcohol Beverage Control website.

What are the age requirements to obtain a Server Permit?

You must be 21 years of age or older to sell or serve alcohol in bars, lounges, convenience stores, grocery stores, or package liquor stores. You can be 19 or 20 years old and obtain a server permit to sell or serve alcohol in a full service restaurant with meals, but can NOT bartend.

What do I have to do to pass my Server Permit class?

You MUST complete the full 4.5-hour State approved Server Permit Traning class, and for this program, you must score an 85% or better on your final exam.

If I lose my Server Permit card, where can I get a replacement?

You can contact the New Mexico Alcohol Beverage Control to obtain a new Server Permit card.

After successfully completing the class, when will I get my Server Permit?

After passing your examination, you will receive a temporary Server Permit that will be good for 120 day, or until such time as you receive your official State Server permit card that will be sent to you by mail.

How long is a Server Permit good for?

3 Years

Can I use a server permit that I obtained from a different state in New Mexico?

No. Only New Mexico Server Permits are accepted.

Why do I need to provide both my Date of Birth and my Social Security number just to get a Server Permit card?

Providing your Date of Birth and Social Security number are both mandated requirements of the New Mexico Alcohol and Beverage Control. If you refuse to provide either one, you will not be able to obtain a Server Permit.

Do I need any extra materials for class?

No. Just a pen/pencil and plenty of paper to take notes.
